Ethel & Ernest started its week-long US premiere screening at the Landmark Nuart Theatre on Friday night.
In the audience were Paul McCartney’s stepsister and stepmother, Ruth and Angie McCartney, pictured below, who came to support the film for which Paul wrote and performed his original song ‘In the Blink of an Eye’. The McCartney family connection runs deep in Ethel & Ernest – Jim Mac’s Jazz Band, fronted by Paul’s father, play the song ‘Walking in the Park with Eloise’ which is heard at the start of the film when Ethel & Ernest are outside the ballroom and at the end as the credits roll. Keen-eyed viewers will also spot a visual reference to Jim’s band in the scene during which it first plays.
The film has so far been well received by the audience and critics. The Los Angeles Times called it ‘a richly etched portrait of maid Ethel…and milkman Ernest’ and Variety described it as a ‘scrupulously faithful adaptation’, adapted with ‘care and affection’.
The film will be showing at the Nuart Theatre until the Thursday the 21st of December. For tickets, go to:
