Our animation trainees are working hard on our 2D animated feature film, Ethel & Ernest. Based in our satellite animation studio on Holloway Road, Islington, North London, the team is led by Ethel & Ernest Animation Supervisor, Isobel Stenhouse. With support from Creative Skillset, the industry skills body for the Creative Industries, the talented Trainee Junior Animation Assistants were recruited through the Trainee Finder scheme, and have since been creating quality work whilst learning on the job.
Isobel feels extremely proud to be able to both train and nurture up-and-coming artistic talent, “It’s a privilege to train our Junior Animation Assistants on Ethel & Ernest. It feels that we are part of a resurgence in 2D animation in the UK, and our film has provided the ideal platform to bring developing artists up to the high standard required of beautiful projects such as this one.”
Trainee Junior Animation Assistant, Iona Menzies echoes the sentiment of pride, “Training with Lupus Films has been an awesome opportunity to learn from experienced professionals whilst getting to work on a beautifully animated film. Being in this friendly studio surrounded by talented animators is a dream! Excuse the cliché but it’s true.”
Danielle Bethel, fellow Trainee Junior Animation Assistant values the learning-on-the-job experience she is gaining in such a short amount of time, “Working as a trainee for Lupus Films has given me the invaluable opportunity to push my work to a high professional standard, which would not have been possible without the training and feedback of industry professionals.”
“With a structured approach to teaching and the hard work of the trainees, their skills level has shot up in a short time, and they’ve contributed greatly to the film.” – Isobel Stenhouse
Lupus Films’ holistic approach to up-skilling and training which couldn’t happen without the vital funding from Creative Skillset is at the heart of our company ethos. We strive to maintain our talent and create quality content led by talented artists who truly understand, learn and grow with our company.
Isobel hopes Lupus Films’ efforts will help ensure a bright future for all of Lupus Films’ trainees, whilst increasing the talent pool across the animation industry. She says, “On a personal note, the team’s energy and the pleasure I’ve had coaching them has brought a whole new level of enjoyment to my work.”
